From Formulas to Focus: Leveling Up in Phase 2
Looking back on Phase 2 of IS101, I feel like I’ve really started to gain momentum. There were definitely challenges, especially balancing Excel work with other commitments, but overall, I think I persevered and performed better than I expected. The assignments A4 Fun with Functions, A5 More Fun with Functions, and A6 Spreadsheet Analysis with Trailer pushed me to go beyond just getting it done. I realized I was building real problem-solving skills, not just checking boxes. For this reflection, I’m choosing data validation and pivot tables the way they were presented helped connect some dots for me. At first, those tools felt like overkill, but the more I played with them, the more I saw how powerful they are especially for making sense of large amounts of information quickly. It reminded me that learning software is really about understanding the why behind the tools, not just the how.
What’s been interesting is how much I’ve started to use Excel outside the classroom. I've learn from chapter 5.2.1 on LabSim that Spreadsheets are extremely helpful for managing data, performing quick calculations, and visualizing information through charts, making them essential tools for both personal and professional tasks. I’ve been helping track some monthly expenses at home more efficiently. Before this phase, I wouldn’t have thought of using Excel that way. Now, it feels like I have a new kind of confidence, it’s not just about knowing the program, but knowing how to use it to solve real-world problems.
Looking ahead to Phase 3, I know it’s going to be about creativity and really pushing our limits. That’s both exciting and a little intimidating. I’ll admit, my default mode is often to just keep up and do what’s required. But I’m starting to believe that I can shift into a higher gear one that’s about actualizing my best work, not just surviving the workload. If Phase 2 taught me anything, it’s that the effort you put in really does pay off and that’s a lesson I want to carry forward.
I am very proud of your performance in Phase 2, Jorge and you will soar in Phase 3 :-)
ReplyDeleteYou have not only built problem-solving skills distinguished yourself in the bonus quizzes, well done!
Very well said "...it’s that the effort you put in really does pay off and that’s a lesson I want to carry forward." ^_^
I am glad to hear that you exceeded your expectations on your performance. Anytime you do that, it is a great result.
ReplyDeleteI agree on what you said about Excel. Even I have been using what I learned more frequently at work. I really am glad to have taken this course. I am glad to see it is benefitting you as well.
I agree with you on A4-A6, feeling like we were solving real problems rather than just checking boxes. Those assignments helped us put what we learned into real-life scenarios.
ReplyDeleteHope you do great going ahead!
Hey Jorge,
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed reading your Phase 2 reflection! It's impressive how you've transitioned from just completing assignments to truly understanding and applying the concepts. Your experience with data validation and pivot tables resonates with me; initially, they seemed complex, but they turned out to be powerful tools for managing and interpreting data.
It's great to hear that you're already using Excel to track monthly expenses at home. Applying what we've learned in real-life scenarios not only reinforces our skills but also highlights the practical value of the course.
Keep up the excellent work!^-^
Hii Jorge! The feeling of doing better than you expected is such a great high, so I hope you keep enjoying that nice feeling! Your last line is so inspiring, and I know that it comes with your great dedication. The skills that we have been learning during Phase 2 did feel like a lot, but I think we can all mutually agree that it taught us well. I know Phase 3 is will be a piece of cake, as my mom likes to say, "Sin Miedo al Exito!"
ReplyDeleteHi Jorge! I really love reading your reflections of your performance in IS101. They always emanate so much positivity and light! I am happy to hear that you have a new level of confidence with Excel and have been able to implement using the program in your daily life! It's very encouraging to see that you are changing your mind set to go above and beyond instead of just doing what is required. I think you will have no problem flying through this last phase.
ReplyDeleteHey Jorge! I admire how you’re doing more than what’s asked. That kind of drive is going to take you far, not just in this class but in life too. I’ve been using what we learned as well and made my own budget spreadsheet to track my monthly expenses. It’s crazy to think how something that used to feel like a big task now only takes a few minutes! Keep up the good work. I know you’re going to “Excel” in the next phases!
ReplyDeleteHey Jorge,
ReplyDeleteGreat job on keeping up and going above and beyond. I wasn’t a big fan of the mail merge Excel project, but I enjoyed the other ones. We’re almost done with the semester, and I find the PowerPoint labs much easier to complete.
Yes, those assignments did help with understanding Excel, and that’s great to hear that it was a boost to get the momentum going! With that momentum, I bet you will pass through Phase 3 without a problem if you haven’t already.
ReplyDeleteThat’s a great way to use your knowledge and skills learned in Phase 2. The more I read about our classmates wanting to use this for personal budgeting, the more I want to give it a try because I calculate my family expenses, investments, and savings in a app called Notes in my iPhone, probably not the most efficient, but now I'm a little motivated to transfer all that to Excel.
I admire how you embraced the challenges of Phase 2 and used them as an opportunity to grow, especially with tools like data validation and pivot tables which definitely felt overwhelming at first for me too. I also appreciate your mindset shift going into Phase 3 it's inspiring! You're absolutely right: it’s not just about getting by, it’s about doing your best and owning your progress. You’ve got a great attitude keep pushing forward!
ReplyDeleteHi Jorge, I agree with you. Phase 2 was definitely the most rewarding and challenging. Excel was definitely a challenge, but a fun one. You have been doing so great, keep up the good work and close this semester full of achievements! :)
ReplyDeleteThose assignments were a challenge but the more we practice it does become easier. I’m happy you’re using excel outside of class so you can keep practicing and using everything you learned especially on your personal life with expenses since we deal with that daily. Gaining more confidence feels amazing!
ReplyDeleteHi Jorge! That's so cool that you are using the things you learn even outside the classroom! I am going to start doing the same myself for my social media content!
ReplyDeleteHi Jorge! Excel is used everywhere! I also find myself having to navigate through obstacles to get my work done. Wish you luck!
