From Formulas to Focus: Leveling Up in Phase 2
Looking back on Phase 2 of IS101, I feel like I’ve really started to gain momentum. There were definitely challenges, especially balancing Excel work with other commitments, but overall, I think I persevered and performed better than I expected. The assignments A4 Fun with Functions, A5 More Fun with Functions, and A6 Spreadsheet Analysis with Trailer pushed me to go beyond just getting it done. I realized I was building real problem-solving skills, not just checking boxes. For this reflection, I’m choosing data validation and pivot tables the way they were presented helped connect some dots for me. At first, those tools felt like overkill, but the more I played with them, the more I saw how powerful they are especially for making sense of large amounts of information quickly. It reminded me that learning software is really about understanding the why behind the tools, not just the how.
What’s been interesting is how much I’ve started to use Excel outside the classroom. I've learn from chapter 5.2.1 on LabSim that Spreadsheets are extremely helpful for managing data, performing quick calculations, and visualizing information through charts, making them essential tools for both personal and professional tasks. I’ve been helping track some monthly expenses at home more efficiently. Before this phase, I wouldn’t have thought of using Excel that way. Now, it feels like I have a new kind of confidence, it’s not just about knowing the program, but knowing how to use it to solve real-world problems.
Looking ahead to Phase 3, I know it’s going to be about creativity and really pushing our limits. That’s both exciting and a little intimidating. I’ll admit, my default mode is often to just keep up and do what’s required. But I’m starting to believe that I can shift into a higher gear one that’s about actualizing my best work, not just surviving the workload. If Phase 2 taught me anything, it’s that the effort you put in really does pay off and that’s a lesson I want to carry forward.

Reflecting on Phase 1 and Preparing for What’s Next
Reflecting on the first phase of IS101-3205 for the Spring 2025 semester, I feel I made steady progress, although there are definitely areas where I can improve. I believe I did well with the initial chapters, especially the fundamentals, and I’ve learned many important skills that will improve how I use Microsoft Word and navigate the web. The Webex meetings with Professor Wu have been very insightful, and I’m really happy with how much I’ve learned in such a short period of time. And we’re just getting started!
As I work my way through Chapter 4 on Microsoft Word, I’ve already learned so much, and I’m only halfway through! The skills and features I’m picking up are making me feel more confident and efficient with the program. It’s amazing how much there is to discover; everything from formatting to shortcuts to advanced tools that I never knew existed. I also found the 4.10.8 Reference Tips section in Microsoft Word useful. It helped me understand how to properly insert and manage references, which made my document more organized and professional-looking. Learning how to use cross-references and keep everything updated was a nice bonus. Honestly, I’m learning so much that I’ve started to think that one day, I might even want to design and write a book in Word with all the tips and tricks I’ve picked up along the way. This chapter has truly opened my eyes to the power of Microsoft Word!
In preparing for the MO-110 Word certification exam, I know it’s crucial to become fully comfortable with all the functions we’ve covered on LabSim and to be able to navigate Microsoft Word efficiently. My plan is to make the most of practice exams and online resources, focusing especially on taking the practice exams multiple times to build my confidence before the actual test. Additionally, I’ll spend time familiarizing myself with all the shortcuts and tools that can make the exam process smoother, ensuring I’m well-prepared for any challenges that come my way.
Lastly, one thing I’d like to share on my second blog post is the importance of consistent practice and perseverance. It’s crucial to never give up, face your fears, and tackle challenges head-on. To reach higher goals, you first need to climb the mountain, and that requires effort and a willingness to step outside your comfort zone. Life can throw curveballs, and some weeks will definitely be more challenging than others. But with the right mindset and a few adjustments to your approach, you can keep pushing forward and continue making progress.

My First Week in IS101 and What’s to Come
Hi! My name is Jorge and I’m a student here at CSN. I’m currently working on a project for class IS101 where I’ll be sharing insights and ideas. I’m excited to learn more about how to use blogger.com and explore how it connects to real-world applications. Through this blog, I hope to share my thoughts and findings, and maybe even start some interesting conversations! Thanks for checking out my work and I look forward to sharing more with you soon!
My first impression of IS101 is that it will require a significant amount of effort on my part, especially given my limited knowledge of computers and software. However, I am also excited about the opportunity as I know this course will greatly improve my digital literacy. By the end of the semester, I’m confident that I will have developed the skills necessary to reach the same level of proficiency as most of my peers. At the moment, I’m in my second semester at CSN and it has been a great experience so far. I’ve had the opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people, and challenge myself academically. The classes have been engaging and I’m excited to continue building on what I’ve learned as I progress through my studies. Each semester feels like a step forward and I’m looking forward to what’s next!
I have basic experience using the Microsoft Outlook Home tab, primarily for managing emails and organizing my workspace. I regularly use the "New" group to create and send emails, and the "Respond" group to reply to or forward messages. The "Delete" group is helpful for managing my inbox by allowing me to quickly remove unnecessary emails. I also use the "Move" group to organize messages into specific folders for better organization. While I’m familiar with these essential functions, I’m continuing to explore additional features to improve my efficiency in Outlook.
