My First Week in IS101 and What’s to Come

Hi! My name is Jorge and I’m a student here at CSN. I’m currently working on a project for class IS101 where I’ll be sharing insights and ideas. I’m excited to learn more about how to use blogger.com and explore how it connects to real-world applications. Through this blog, I hope to share my thoughts and findings, and maybe even start some interesting conversations! Thanks for checking out my work and I look forward to sharing more with you soon!

My first impression of IS101 is that it will require a significant amount of effort on my part, especially given my limited knowledge of computers and software. However, I am also excited about the opportunity as I know this course will greatly improve my digital literacy. By the end of the semester, I’m confident that I will have developed the skills necessary to reach the same level of proficiency as most of my peers. At the moment, I’m in my second semester at CSN and it has been a great experience so far. I’ve had the opportunity to learn new skills, meet new people, and challenge myself academically. The classes have been engaging and I’m excited to continue building on what I’ve learned as I progress through my studies. Each semester feels like a step forward and I’m looking forward to what’s next!

I have basic experience using the Microsoft Outlook Home tab, primarily for managing emails and organizing my workspace. I regularly use the "New" group to create and send emails, and the "Respond" group to reply to or forward messages. The "Delete" group is helpful for managing my inbox by allowing me to quickly remove unnecessary emails. I also use the "Move" group to organize messages into specific folders for better organization. While I’m familiar with these essential functions, I’m continuing to explore additional features to improve my efficiency in Outlook.

  5. I share your observation in that this class requires a significant amount of effort. I hope to have some of your enthusiasm to help push me through my other classes this semester. This class has already helped me with Outlook as well at work. I was finally able to set up a signature for my emails instead of copy and paste all the time.

  6. Hello Jorge! I can’t wait to see your future blog posts and the ideas you’ll be sharing with all of us. One feature I’ve been using a lot in Outlook is the “Move” feature as well. With so many emails in my work account, I rely on it to categorize everything and to keep my inbox clean and organized. Best of luck to you this semester Jorge!

  10. Hi Jorge! Yes, this class does require a lot of time. The assignments aren’t hard, but they do require, as you’ve probably seen and experienced, attention to detail and just time to work on each lab. I always try doing one section a day; if I'm feeling crazy, maybe two, depending on my mood. I’m sure you will do fine, and you will come out with a lot of new knowledge.

  14. Hi Jorge,

It is cool to meet someone who used Outlook before this class. I am very accustomed to people around me using Gmail. I personally wish I had made the switch to Outlook sooner since I believe it is much more organized than my current Gmail.

  16. Hi Jorge, I hope this class has impacted you a lot since you mentioned you have limited knowledge of computers and software. This class has so many learning tools, I’m happy how much I’ve learned so far and some of it has not been easy. CSN has been a great experience for me too, it's my first semester, and I like all the different campus locations. It makes its easier to get to certain classes based on the major, not everything is cramped in one location like most schools.
